As I sit writing this the back door is wide open, the sun is shining and birds are singing, long may it last. Particularly once the children break up from school, and yes we do continue all through the summer. Older children are more than welcome to go in the creche, those who are regulars in the holidays, bring along books, or nintendos and turn it into a social club. What better role model can you be to your children than for them to come along to where you do your fitness class?
Talking of role models, Client of the month is the amazing pair of Pam and Umberta from my wednesday early class at Corinium, I find them both inspirational to teach. They both work so hard and are always cheerful and positive.
Class of month is my superb CardioDance team, Tuesday evening 8.00-9.00pm, a couple of weeks ago they burnt off an awesome 630 calories, this combined with the epoc effect (afterburn) will mean over 1000 calories gone with an hours work and with a great laugh being had at the same time. We never worry if we dont get all the steps in the right order, its the moving that counts.
Need a reason to tone up? Lets do the maths - at rest, 1lb of muscle burns 15 calories an hour, 1lb of fat burns just 1 calorie an hour. So if you manage to tone up and give yourself 1lb of muscle, (not tough to do with some medium weights and some leg exercises) doing nothing at all each day you will burn an extra 180 calories (move more and this racks up loads more) Each week an extra 1,260 Each year thats 65,510 extra calories burnt The best class to get these immense results is the Wed 8.00-9.00pm body blast.See you there
Christmas party -this is now starting to be planned, speak to Bev of Deb for more details
Top Ten Stress Busting Tips If you are stressed, whether from your job or something more personal, the first step is to identify the cause. Good stress management means building emotional strength, having a good social network and adopting a positive outlook. We all suffer from and over load of stress at sometime in our lives, thankfully there are many things we can do to help
Get Active - exercise wont make your stress disappear. but it will help reduce some of the emotional intensity you are feeling, clearing your thoughts and enabling you to deal with your problems more calmly Take Control - If you are passive and thinking "I cant do anything about my problem" your stress will get worse. The feeling of loss of control is one of the main causes of stress and lack of well being. The act of taking control is in itself empowering, and its a crucial part of finding a solution that satisfies you and not someone else. Have some "me time" - The UK workforce works the longest hours in Europe. The extra hours mean that people aren't spending enough time doing things that they really enjoy. We all need to take some time for socializing, relaxation or exercising. Set aside a couple of nights a week for some quality "me time" away from work. Once you have prioritized these evenings, be strict with yourself and leave work behind Connect With People - A problem shared is a problem halved, a good network of colleagues, friends and family can ease your troubles and help you see things in a different way. Activities that we take part in with friends help us relax and we often have a good laugh which is an excellent stress reliever. Avoid Unhealthy Habits - dont rely on alcohol, smoking and caffeine as your ways of coping. it might provide temporary relief but it wont make the problems disappear. You need to tackle the cause of your stress. Help Others - Evidence shows that helping others who are often in situations worse than yours, helps you put your problems in perspective. The more you give the more resilient and happy you will feel. On a more basic level, do someone a favour every day, it can be really small. Favours cost nothing and will make you feel good Work Smarter, Not Harder - Good time management means quality work rather than quantity. You have to find a work life balance that suits you. Working smarter means prioritizing your work. Concentrate on the tasks that will make a real difference to your work. Leave the least important tasks until last. Be Positive - Look for the positives in life and the things for which you are grateful. Write down three things at the end of each day which went well. Try to have a glass half full attitude, instead of glass half empty. This require a shift in attitude for those who are naturally pessimistic. By making a conscious effort you can train yourself to be more positive about life. Accept The Things You Cannot Change - Changing a difficult situation isn't always possible. TOAST VS BREAD - Following a great discussion in the monday morning class and research on my part I can state now that toast and bread contain the same calories, taost might weigh less as it will have less water, but water doesnt contain calories, the only calories lost when you toast bread are the crumbs that fall in the toaster
